Systems and data
industrial internet and digitalization

Although industrial internet and digitalization are hot topics at the moment, the application of IT systems to support after sales in general and warranty in particular is highly inconsistent across companies. Some companies are investing in those capabilities, whereas quite a few invest just the minimum and try to survive with the old legacy applications, isolated point-solutions, excel and semi-manual processes.
The main elements of a warranty management system can be broadly divided into three areas (with integrations to a number of company internal and external systems):
  • warranty transaction support
  •  warranty analytics
  • warranty and service contract management.
The typical steps include the approach definition (low-cost enhancements to the legacy or  system replacement and higher investment in the solution better matching company needs and processes) requirements definition, solution evaluation criteria definition, assessing and selecting the software product or systems integrator best meeting them, implementing the new system and related process changes.
A warranty system implementation is primarily a large-scale change management effort, involving people inside the OEM and also outside it (in a global organization we may be talking about thousands of external companies being impacted).
